Eastern Fork Loop -

Leaving the byway at the intersection of St Rd 1 and US 40 (The National Road) go east on US 40 to Richmond.   Turn right (south) on US 27 to SR 101 in Liberty, in Union County.  Continue south on SR 101 to US 52 at Brookville.  At this intersection, the Eastern Fork Loop ends and rejoins the WCSB.   Assets along this loop include the historic cities of Richmond and Liberty, The Whitewater Memorial State Park and Brookville Lake.  The Richmond to Brookville portion of this loop shares a section of the northern end of the Indiana Freedom Trails Driving Tour #3.

Throughout the region many of the assets are not directly on the proposed byway route.  Even counties the route does not pass through have ample opportunities through this byway.  One such is Union county.   The Whitewater Canal was fed by the West Fork of the Whitewater River and the proposed byway will follow that fork of the Whitewater River to the confluence with the East Fork in Brookville. Union County is located on the East Fork of the Whitewater River and is surrounded on three sides by counties that the proposed byway route passes through.  Union County has some of the finest recreational assets in the region with state recreational areas and access to Brookville Lake.
